Come Follow Me

Following Jesus.jpg

"Come follow me, and I will make you fishers of men." - Matthew 4:19

Each morning I kneel to acknowledge Christ’s lordship of my life. I ask Him to have complete, unhindered control of my life for that day, to walk around in my body, to think with my mind, to love with my heart, to speak with my lips and to continue seeking and saving the lost through me.

A couple of years ago I was in St. Louis on a conference. While out and about one evening, I bumped into another of the weekend participants. As we sparked up a conversation, she expressed the desire to know Christ as her Lord and Savior, but didn't know how to begin. All of a sudden the words of Paul came back to me, "And we know that all that happens to us is working for our good if we love God and are fitting into His plans." (Romans 8:28)

I was certainly being used by the Lord and fitting into His plans. I shared my story with her and through our conversation, learned that she and her husband had been visiting a different church every Sunday for the past couple of years. They were looking for God but had not been able to find Him.

I explained to my new friend how to receive Christ. Together, we knelt and prayed, and she received Christ into her life as her personal Lord and Savior.

With great joy and enthusiasm my new sister in Christ announced, "I want to take these things to my husband because he too is eager to receive Christ." Once she had found her Lord, it became imperative for her to follow Christ and to offer Christ.

When was the last time you shared your Christ story with another? Were they hungry for the Lord? Were you acting as a "Fisher of Men?"

Do all that you can in 2012 to fish wherever God may place you. Follow Him and do all that you can to help others to do the same.

YOU ASK WHY I FOLLOW THIS JESUS

You ask why I follow this Jesus?
Why I love Him the way I do?
When the world’s turned away from His teachings
And the people that serve Him are few.

It’s not the rewards I’m after
Or gifts that I hope to receive
It’s the Presence that calls for commitment
It’s the Spirit I trust and believe.

The Lord doesn’t shelter His faithful
Or spare them all suffering and pain,
Like everyone else I have burdens,
And walk through my share of rain.

Yet He gives me a plan and a purpose,
And that joy only Christians have known,
I never know what comes tomorrow,
But I do know that I’m never alone.

It’s the love always there when you need it;
It’s the words that redeem and inspire,
It’s the longing to ever be with Him
That burns in my heart like a fire.

So you ask why I love my Lord Jesus?
Well friend, that’s so easy to see,
But the one thing that fills me with wonder is
Why Jesus loves someone like me.
