God Knows Us Intimately
"O Lord, you have searched me and known me. You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from far away. You search out my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways. Even before a word is on my tongue, O Lord, you know it completely. You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is so high that I cannot attain it." - Psalm 139:1-6
Do you have a friend or family member that you know so well you know what they are going to say or do before they say or do it? Maybe they know you just as well, so that they can predict what you will say by the expression on your face. Sometimes we know someone so well that we can guess what they are thinking, and when they tell us, we might actually be right!
In today's psalm, the writer says that God knows everything about us through everything we do, and that God searches every part of our hearts. Imagine the person who knows you best. Even though he or she might know almost everything about you, God knows your heart and mind perfectly. Like a loving parent, God knows us completely, and always wants to be close to us. The psalmist reacts to this by saying that this is too wonderful to understand! The creator of the world knows the corners of your heart, your every thought, and loves you continually.
