God Truly Knows

"For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin." - Hebrews 4:5

She was at her wits end when she finally blurted out, "Pastor, there is no use in talking about this, no offense but you really cannot understand what I am going through." Of course like many, she thought that pastors are somehow immune to pain, doubt and sorrow. Her father was sinking into dementia and she was strapped, emotionally, spiritually and financially.

What she did not know was that both of my grandfathers had recently died after years of battling Alzheimer's. I acknowledged her unique pain, but prayed that she would open her heart to the possibility that there were those who could and did empathize with her.

The New Testament author of the letter to the Hebrew Christians, reminds us that we do not have to allow pain, doubt or sorrow to isolate us from God. Our God has endured it all in his Son Jesus Christ. He knows our fears. He feels our pain. So, open your heart to God, for He truly knows.

Prayer:
Lord God, I know that You feel my pain and fear. Help me to turn it over to You, and to trust You more. Amen.
