Immersed in The Word

The Word.jpg

"For the Word of God is living and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing apart of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in His sight, but all things are naked and opened to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do." - Hebrews 4:12-13

This passage is set in the context of rest and obedience, of believing and then trusting in Christ, The Word, and then obeying His precepts. And thus, the application of verse 11 is to pay serious attention to His instructions and make every effort to know and obey God as Lord.

God’s Word is to be taken in us and must meet us deeply so we believe, trust and obey Him as reveled by His Word. For His Word has exposed the wickedness of disobedience and pride as exemplified by the faithless of many generations.

God is the One who penetrates and judges all and He is the One who loves and invites us to be with Him. God has the Holy Spirit to know us and break through our pride and to guide us. However, he also has His Tool too—His Word the Bible revealing principles and rules to show us His plan and instructions. He uses the Word to know us deeply, what our true spiritual condition is, what has damaged us, what needs to be fixed or honed, what is missing, and what is in the way of His Way. He sees it all and allows us to get a glimpse for change and improvement, for our fullness in our spiritual formation, and our usefulness in His Kingdom.

God is alive and at work in our lives. His Word, The Word transforms us and renews us daily. Are you fully immersed in The Word?

Prayer:
Almighty God, you are our Creator and there is nothing hidden from your sight. All things are naked and exposed to your eyes and to you alone do we all give account. Lord, cause us to strive to enter your rest this morning as we affirm the truth, sufficiency and authority of your Word. May your living and active Word come and pierce our hearts. Thank you for your Word. It so completely uncovers us and lays us bare that we find ourselves hopeless and helpless in our own abilities and resources. Only when your Word does this work are we fit and ready to receive by faith the rest you offer us in Christ, The Word. So come this day Lord and so pierce and divide and discern and expose that we may turn to The Word with absolute abandon and trust, resting in Him. Amen.
