A Prayer for Forgiveness

"Have mercy on me, O God, because of your unfailing love. Because of your great compassion, blot out the stain of my sins. Wash me clean from my guilt. Purify me from my sin. For I recognize my rebellion; it haunts me day and night. Against you, and you alone, have I sinned; I have done what is evil in your sight. You will be proved right in what you say, and your judgment against me is just. For I was born a sinner—yes, from the moment my mother conceived me. But you desire honesty from the womb, teaching me wisdom even there. Purify me from my sins, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow." - Psalm 51:1-7

All of us need forgiveness. If something is separating you from God, then you need to pray for strength to cast it aside.

Forgiving is a process, especially when you have been deeply wounded. Pray this prayer daily if you need to forgive. Pray it until you stop replaying the event in your mind. Pray it until you no longer hurt or hate.

Prayer:
Lord, you said in your word that I must forgive If I want you to forgive me. So Father I ask you now to heal me of the hurt that I'm feeling. Help me to stop replaying the events over in my mind, and instead think on you. Father, I realize that you know my pain and your desire is that I be restored. So Father I give the pain over to you now, for you said I should cast all my cares upon you. Today I lay it down and vow not to pick it back up. I thank you God that you will walk with me through this process of forgiving. I thank you that you will never leave nor forsake me. Now Father, I pray for my offender(s) because you said we should pray for our enemies and those who spitefully use us. I pray that you draw them into a closer relationship with you. I pray your protection upon them. I pray that you would even prosper them in all that they set their hands to do. Thank you Father for releasing me from the spirit of un-forgiveness. Thank you for continuing to forgive me as I forgive others. Thank you that I hold no bitterness, malice, or resentment in my heart. Thank you that I am whole. In Jesus name. Amen. - by Wanda Collins
