Waiting For the Lord
"Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and strengthens the powerless. Even youths will faint and be weary, and the young will fall exhausted; but those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint." - Isaiah 40:28-31
Through the prophet Isaiah, we are reminded that God is God. Jesus came to remind us of that as well. Through Jesus' ministry, life, death, and resurrection we can be reminded of God’s power and have faith in God’s power at work in our own lives.
The book of Isaiah tells us that belief in God’s power can strengthen us. Isaiah tells us that "those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength." But what does it mean to "wait for the Lord?" Isaiah doesn’t tell us that we receive renewed strength just because we want it. It says renewed strength is for those who wait for the Lord. To me, this means living the way a servant waits on someone — standing by, patiently asking what to do next.
